The very fact that this is one of the most popular threads in this section is telling about how much of a beast multiplayer is. It's one of those features that can take up most of your production time if you let it. So, believe me when I tell you we're going to design with multiplayer in mind (so we're not shoehorning it in) but will be very mindful of our community's preferences before spending any time on it.

I'm personally very excited about the co-op opportunities that multiplayer provides, especially for resource/information trade.

- you host, it is YOUR Sandbox ...
- you are the commander your rules ....

no whining, no complaining you were treated unfairly

add on players take on crew roles ...
I am thinking however this might require a 'net' based check system

... why yes I know how to align warp plasma conduits

Not a lot of good co op games around. Most multiplayer are competitive. Would be nice to see more co op games where people work together on the same thing and not simply being beside an ally doing their own thing. If it's just playing beside an ally, might as well just play single player. Same experience.
